A glass bottle of sweet and fruity melon-flavored Ramune—these unique, traditional glass bottles are a staple of the Japanese summer and feature a bottle neck with a glass marble. To open the bottle, you must use the included tool and push the glass ball down into the bottle. Then you can fully enjoy this fruity, bubbly delight.
Ramune from Sangaria in Osaka, Japan, is probably the most famous Japanese soft drink.
The most striking feature is the bottle’s shape, and when you open your Watermelon Ramune, you’ll find it initially sealed with a glass marble held in place by the pressure of the carbonation, which is created in conjunction with the bottle’s unique neck design. To open the bottle, you push the glass marble down into the neck, where it stays and rattles around as you drink. Ramune is sometimes also called Marble Soda.
If you find your Ramune a bit tricky to open, there are instructional videos on YouTube, too!
These days, Ramune is a symbol of summer in Japan and is consumed in large quantities during summer festivals and on hot days and nights.
