When Harry A. Cole created the product, the U.S. was in the early stages of the Great Depression. He was trying to find a way to improve his family’s finances and drew inspiration from the vast pine forests surrounding his home near Jackson, Mississippi.

Pine became Pine-Sol.

The cleaning solution became “Sol.”

Pine-Sol.

Decades passed, the bottles and labels changed, and the product became an established part of American cleaning culture.

In 1990, Pine-Sol was acquired by The Clorox Company, which continued to develop the brand and later introduced more scents and varieties.

But Original Pine remained.
