Tide to Go Instant Stain Remover Pen – the pocket-sized stain remover

You know that moment. A white shirt. Coffee. A slight miscalculation between the cup and your mouth.

Or dinner is going great until a drop of tomato sauce decides to leave the plate and land right in the middle of your shirt. Of course, the Americans have invented a little pen just for this.

The Tide to Go Instant Stain Remover Pen is a portable stain remover pen designed to quickly treat fresh food and drink stains when you’re on the go. No washing machine, no big bottle, and no panic. Just pull out the pen, treat the stain, and get on with your day.

Small? Absolutely. But this could very well become one of those things you start carrying with you everywhere.

A stain remover pen that’s actually made for your purse

Tide to Go looks almost like a regular marker pen, which is part of its genius.

It fits easily in your purse, backpack, desk drawer, car, or suitcase and is ready when your lunch suddenly ends up somewhere other than in your mouth.

The pen’s cleaning solution helps break down the stain while the tip works to lift and absorb it.

And since Tide to Go is designed for multiple uses, you don’t have to carry around individual disposable wipes. According to Tide, one pen lasts for about 10–20 treatments, depending on how much you use each time.

Coffee, ketchup, and red wine—that’s where Tide to Go shines

Tide to Go is primarily designed for fresh stains from food and beverages.

It works especially well on, for example:

✔ Coffee
✔ Tea
✔ Ketchup
✔ BBQ sauce
✔ Tomato juice
✔ Soda
✔ Grape juice
✔ Red wine
✔ Chocolate sauce

And there’s actually a reason why Tide focused specifically on food and drinks. The company’s consumer surveys showed that fresh food and drink stains accounted for a full 72% of the stains that occurred when people were on the go.

So instead of trying to create a product that works for absolutely everything, Tide developed a small, targeted solution for the stains that tend to pop up in the midst of everyday life.

But it’s not Harry Potter’s magic wand

We love a good American product—but it doesn’t need to be credited with superpowers it doesn’t have.

Tide itself makes it clear that Tide to Go doesn’t work as well on stains like ink, grease, blood, and grass. Those kinds of stains usually need to be pre-treated and then washed.

So this is primarily your little first-aid kit when coffee, wine, juice, or sauce attack your clothes. And that’s exactly why it’s so smart.

How to Use Tide to Go

First, remove as much of the residue on top of the stain as possible.

Then press the tip against the stain a few times to release the cleaning solution. Gently rub the tip over the area. If more solution is needed, press again and continue gently until the stain has been treated.

If the treated area will be exposed to direct sunlight, Tide recommends wiping away any excess solution with a damp cloth or napkin.

This product is intended for colorfast fabrics that can be machine-washed or dry-cleaned. If you are unsure about the fabric, we recommend testing it first on a less visible part of the garment.

Always follow the garment’s care label and the instructions on the original packaging.

Bleach-free – no chlorine bleach in the pen

Despite its effective stain-removal properties, Tide to Go contains no chlorine bleach.

This makes the product suitable for many colorfast fabrics—but just as with all stain removers, it’s wise to test it on an inconspicuous area first if you’re unsure about the fabric or color.

Born for the American “on-the-go” lifestyle

Tide has been a part of American laundry history since the 1940s, but in 2005, the brand did something quite different. They took Tide out of the laundry room.

Tide to Go was launched with a simple idea: why wait until you get home and can start a load of laundry when the stain happens NOW?

The result was the small white-and-orange pen that you could take with you to work, a restaurant, the car, school, or on vacation.

Today, Tide describes Tide to Go as the best-selling instant stain removerin the U.S. —based on sales.

And that’s perhaps not so surprising. It solves a very small but very annoying everyday problem in a typically American way: make the solution small, fast, simple, and portable.

TastyAmericans’ Tip

Keep one at home? Sure. But then you’re almost missing the point.

We’d keep a Tide to Go in our purse, car, desk drawer, or suitcase. It’s kind of like an umbrella: when you really need it, you’re so glad you thought of it beforehand.

And if you’ve ever tried eating tacos in a white shirt, you already know why this little pen exists.
